PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The 2015 Pavilion by Spanish architects SelgasCano is an amorphous, double-skinned, polygonal structure consisting of panels of translucent, multi-coloured fabric.
The engineers employed a steel frame draped in unreinforced, prestressed EFTE, a fabric with the requisite structural and fire performance, and high level of translucency that helped realise the Pavilion’s coloured and mirrored finish.
Judge's comment:
The judges enjoyed the playfulness of this pavilion. The project implements latest trends in software aided design in producing a functional structure, intrinsically connected to the pavilion’s sculptural nature. Serpentine Pavilions are typically designed within very short timeframes, and this was no exception, the engineer forming a vital part in the design process from start to open
