This new office building occupies a highly constrained site. An existing Grade II listed Portland Stone façade was retained and it’s steel frame re-used as load carrying elements, whilst the bar/restaurant within the site footprint was kept open throughout the works. The new structure consists of an eight story steel frame with metal decking slabs, with an in-situ core and concrete basement supported on a combination of piled and pad footing foundations, a number of which sit above the London Underground Victoria Line.

Judge's comment:

The design of the foundations to this building demonstrates a clear understanding of the problems and great skills in implementation. In addition the structural engineer’s innovative approach to the retained façade and bar/restaurant add significant value for the client.
