PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Part of the redevelopment of the Saint John Bosco College site in Battersea, South West London, Cobalt Place features two residential blocks built with imaginative use of cross-laminated timber.
The project used over 2500m3 of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) from a sustainable source. The pre-fabricated CLT panels ensured high speed construction with a 15 week build period, and formed a key part of the building’s aesthetic.
Judge's comment: The judges were impressed by the work that the engineers have done with construction sequence models and methodology which contributed to reduced construction periods, adding significant value to the developer client. The engineers have developed an environmental monitoring and reporting system to evaluate construction options to deliver a low embodied carbon solution.
