This remarkable structure is composed of four towers and a one-story deep mega space frame at eighth floor level. From this top level the remaining floor plates are suspended by super-high-strength tension rods.

This expressed steel structure creates a very open public building with minimal columns to interrupt the flow. At ground level there is an entirely column-free space that has become a hugely popular new public square in Taiwan.

Judge's comment:

This project is a tour-de- force. Having set out to create a dramatic new public building the engineers have risen to the occasion with floors hanging from the roof and the roof supported on four towers. The results will amaze and intrigue people who use the building and who benefit from the wonderful open space that has been created at street level. This is an impressive building where structural engineering effort looms large.
