PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Dazhihe Bridge is the first long span, pre-stressed concrete, continuous fin-back bridge in China, the widest of all fin-back bridges in the world. The structure has helped to cut a third of the travel time from Shanghai’s Pudong Airport to the Yangshang deep-water Harbour, giving a great boost to the local economy. The bridge’s innovative design and construction methodology saved £2.38 million of engineering costs, and £206K in annual maintenance fees. Engineers used an "Invert T Concrete Cross-section" design in place of a traditional box-girder cross section, providing a durable, robust and aesthetically pleasing new landmark.

The engineers made efficient use of "Invert T Concrete Cross-section" design in place of traditional box-girder cross section, providing a durable and robust structure, and also saving on maintenance costs. This is the first long-span, pre-stressed concrete continuous fin-back bridge in China, with 158m main span and 35m deck width. This is an impressive feat
