The “Future of Us” exhibition, held from December 2015 to March 2016, celebrated Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. More than 400,000 visitors experienced a stunning play of light and shade cast by the Gridshell structure.
The structure was composed of 11,000 perforated aluminium panels, 12,040 Bolts, 11,188 Steel Plates and 4,620 Steel Elements. The Gridshell spanned approximately 50m and rose to 16m.
This Singaporean gridshell has many pragmatic features. It is made of multi-radius steel arches that are braced together using the primary purlins to gain proper gridshell behaviour. The judeges liked this combination of architectural form and straightforward construction, joined together by sophisticated engineering.
