Appearing like the skeleton of a space station fallen onto an Adelaide beachside, Skymate is an aerial adventure park, consisting of 54 ‘sky pod’ activity stations over four levels, which form the framework for over one hundred different aerial activities.

Skymate is 26 metres high. Of the 16 steel columns that support the activity stations, only six actually meet the ground. The rest are fully suspended, tied together with platform rings and structural cables.

Judge's comment:

A literal structural ‘high wire’ act was required in order to achieve the goal of mid-air suspension of over 100 different aerial activities in space. With only 6 of 16 supporting columns meeting the ground, the judging panel was impressed by the delicate manner in which the engineering problem was resolved.
