PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Two residential towers of 26 and 30 storeys were completed in Stratford using this pioneering construction technique. The Jump Factory is a 10-storey high demountable enclosure inside which a high rise building is constructed in factory conditions. Support for the Factory is integrated into the design of the main building, and bespoke jacking frames are incorporated into the Factory structure, allowing it to be raised up the building incrementally as each level is completed. It provides four internal working levels at which frame construction, load-out of internal fixtures and fittings, and facade installation is completed, allowing the completion of one floor per week.

Judge's comment:

This demountable 10-storey high temporary enclosure for high rise construction is a step change in the right direction and one the market has been waiting for. Here is a system that covers a lot of bases - it improves quality of construction and working conditions for on site personnel, it reduces on site labour using prefabrication techniques and accelerates construction. The designers were not dissuaded by the myriad of load cases requiring careful analysis. A really impressive piece of construction engineering.
