A refurbishment project to link two existing structures allowing them to function as a single entity. A highlight is the staircase that has become a sculptural feature of the new glazed atrium space. The project used a combination of light touch engineering to the existing buildings and a bold insertion to tie them together. It created a characterful new space in a sustainable way.

This refurbishment project united two existing structures, a Victorian hop warehouse and a 1980s office block primarily through the addition of a new atrium and staircase.
The new stair needed to address the differing levels of each building and provide a link between them. A number of geometries were investigated and a helical stair form was adopted with landing arms that connected back to each building.
The creative stair design integrated very well into the existing structures and transforms the buildings, creating a new space in a sustainable way.
