Emmetts Civil Construction
Horotiu, New Zealand
The Perry Bridge in Waikato, New Zealand, helped to create a beautiful focal point that attracts people to the new Cycleway. This extremely elegant footbridge required careful design to deal with pedestrian vibrations, particularly as its supporting arch is very long and slender. An additional challenge was designing to seismic loading. The judges were particularly impressed by the construction methodology; it was launched using cables in just two hours. It demonstrates excellent value to the client in terms of its cost, reduced materials compared to a conventional truss, and its quick construction. The local community has been involved throughout, with artwork designed by local students, and their celebrations on its opening.
