DETAILED DESIGN AND SUPPLY OF PRECAST ELEMENTS
A scheme that enabled an existing structure to be retained whilst improving accessibility. Inspired by the concept of a forest canopy, the design team developed a cantilevering composite glulam and ply diagrid roof. This maximised accessibility in the new bedrooms beneath and provided fixing points for future equipment. Indoor and outdoor zones are linked with minimal structure and level access.

This practical solution to a family home redesign created a light, spacious and barrier-free home.
The diagrid roof, which cantilevers 4.5m, is a composite glulam and plywood structure which has been carefully and lovingly designed and detailed to meet the unique terms of the brief. The existing house has been sensitively remodelled, with internal walls adjusted to provide a more efficient arrangement of spaces and a higher quality living environment.
An intelligently designed project where demolition may have been the easier and conventional option and good effort has been made to minimise carbon. The project boasts a simplicity of design and some thoughtful engineering decisions.
