PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A group of buildings created with an emphasis on creating space and a New Nordic aesthetic. The folded timber roof of the clubhouse is composed of non-identical triangular plates. These sculpt the space and meet stringent energy use requirements. The form-finding process and final detailing showcase design sensitivity and a multidisciplinary approach.

Judge's comment:

A series of bespoke, folded timber roofs developed and engineered to dramatic effect.

The successful and well detailed roof concept is composed of non-identical triangular plates, effectively trusses, allowing each space and zone within the building to be sculpted, the timber structure optimised, and the energy use minimised. The choice of timber material and the overall shape of the structure was inspired by centuries old great halls with their exposed wooden rafters. The use of wood shingles as roof cladding further compliments the use of traditional timber construction techniques.

The form-finding process and final project detailing demonstrate a high level of design sensitivity and a true multidisciplinary approach.
