PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A project that champions using engineered timber in large-scale developments to create efficient and sustainable structures. Republic has revitalised a tired 1990s office masterplan to produce a high-quality, low-carbon workplace and public realm. The new lightweight structures use engineered timber to increase and extend the lettable floor area without additional work to the foundations.

Judge's comment:

The refurbishment of two ten-storey office buildings alongside an expanded public realm creating a highly sustainable workplace.

Building extensions utilised glue-laminated and cross-laminated timber to increase and extend the lettable floor area without any need to undertake additional work to the foundations.

A central atrium feature is formed from cantilevered and exposed timber balconies and frames. The timber pavilion extensions were designed with circular economy and future adaptability in mind and detailed to support a further three storeys in the future.

An impressive light touch solution that carefully minimised the use of materials and need for new foundations.
