The paper reviews the modern form of composite steel framework in which the structure is designed as a box shell and deliberate provision is made in the overall design for the contribution to load support and transverse stability from ancillary elements of the structure. L.R. Creasy
The problem considered in this paper is that of a rectangular slab of uniform thickness strengthened by four edge-beams; it is loaded transversely and supported at its corners on rigid stanchions.
