Promoting the profession The further Viewpoint article on this topic (by Mr J. A. Baird on 5 March following that by Mr M. J. Murray on 4 December) has sparked off two further contributions (since that in our column for 19 February from Mr G. C. Peattie). Richard Trail of Glasgow keenly supports the third proposal made by Mr Baird: Mr Baird’s first two courses of action do not much appeal to my taste and I feel are not likely to lead to any perceptible success. They depend largely on individuals using the tags of ‘Engineer Smith’ or the badge, and there can be no centrally controlled effort. Verulam
In June 1990 the Football World championship took place in Italy. The International Organising Committee had stated that the 11 stadia where the games had to be played should comply with some unified rules that, for instance, ask for individual seats for each participant, a roofing able to cover the tiers but with the central green open to the air, and space and facilities for the press and radio/TV networks.
