The tragic history of this iconic 2.6km bridge set the context for this highly complex project. Strengthening and widening one of Australia’s most important transportation links without peak- hour traffic restrictions presented the project team with a host of logistical and technical challenges. Their solution has extended the boundaries of engineering knowledge and practice worldwide.
"This extremely complex and demanding job was carried out in very difficult site conditions over three years, and without interruption to the daily flow of 160,000 vehicles. It is a brilliant example of the huge range of skills; analytical, practical and organisational that structural engineers can bring to society."
