The comprehensive repair and conservation of the Gala Fairydean Rovers Netherdale Stand, designed by architect Peter Womersley and recognized globally for its 1960s Modernism. The stand had been closed in 2017 due to structural concerns. The project aimed to preserve the architectural integrity of this Category A-listed building, primarily constructed from reinforced concrete. The initiative involved thorough condition surveys, innovative repair techniques, and a collaborative effort with various stakeholders to address and mitigate concrete deterioration and structural issues, ensuring the building's longevity and aesthetic preservation.
The engineering team have employed cutting-edge methods, including bespoke repair mortars and in-situ casting techniques, to ensure the repairs were compatible with the original structure and aesthetics. A thorough survey and materials testing revealed that the building was structurally sound and enabled a targeted repair strategy.
A new rainwater management system, including a new protective membrane and improved drainage solution addressed shortcomings of the original design.
Sets a precedent for future maintenance of reinforced concrete structures.
