Project description

Rising 65m above the port of Genoa, the new port control tower is both a critical safety asset and an architectural landmark. The steel lattice structure supports a control cabin and canopy, with prototypes and in-situ calibration reducing the size of the dampers by 95%. Pre-tensioned stays and an active damping system work together to manage dynamic forces. The result is a striking structure that embodies the precision, resilience, and innovation needed to serve one of Europe’s busiest ports.

Judge’s comments

An efficient and structurally driven tower design that delivers the world’s first active damping system of its kind in such a building. Combining a clever post-tensioned system, advanced analysis, and international knowledge sharing. The project demonstrates an adaptive structural vision that inspires responsive and resilient infrastructure.
