Project description

Part of Singapore’s Thomson - East Coast MRT Line, TE14 Orchard Station has been constructed around and beneath the existing North–South Line station, all while train services continued uninterrupted. This complex interchange enhances connectivity between new and existing lines, improving access across the city. The design and construction demanded precise sequencing, advanced engineering coordination, and close stakeholder collaboration to minimise disruption for passengers.

Judge’s comments

A complex underground station expansion delivered beneath a live metro tunnel without disrupting train services. The team’s precise underpinning of the existing station raft and excavation between piles safeguarded operations while linking two stations seamlessly. By prioritising the retention of existing structures and overcoming significant technical challenges, the project demonstrates engineering quality, innovation, and a strong commitment to enhancing public transport for the community.
