This stadium demonstrates an integrated engineering approach to the design of a large, flexible venue. Through engineering intelligence, advanced digital optimisation and locally tested Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) systems, the team achieved reductions in material use and carbon while delivering a resilient stadium.
Resilient design is at the core of this project, with Buckling Restrained Braces forming part of a structural system designed to allow the stadium to recover following a significant earthquake. What stood out was the way the engineering goes beyond meeting seismic design requirements, prioritising post-earthquake performance and the continued use of an important public venue. The project showcases good engineering practice in a high seismic zone, demonstrating how structural engineering can support both resilience and long-term functionality.
