This webinar will explore how structural engineers can contribute to the successful design and construction of data centres — one of the most sought after and structurally demanding building typologies globally. Industry experts will share insights into the complex engineering challenges involved in delivering these highly optimised structures.
Stability standards for data centres must meet a far more demanding remit than many traditional buildings. Beyond preventing collapse and safeguarding occupants, these structures must support uninterrupted operational reliability, ongoing adaptations and future scalability as fundamental requirements.
The session is designed to provide structural engineers with essential knowledge and expert perspectives on the physical infrastructure that underpins the digital world.
This webinar aims to equip structural engineers with technical understanding, professional awareness, and judgment required to contribute to the robust structural design and construction of data centers.
By the end of the webinar you should be able to:
Understand the unique structural performance requirements of data centres
Identify the principal structural risks and constraints influencing data centre design
Structural engineers and built‑environment professionals interested in the design, assessment, and construction of data centres.
Structural engineers in broader practice who wish to deepen their technical understanding of modern and emerging commercial, technology-aligned infrastructure.
Dimitris Elliniadis is Associate Director, Design Team Lead, and Sustainability Lead for Pinnacle Consulting Engineers. With over 15 years of experience in construction and design through our the EMEA region, he manages a wide range of projects from inception to completion as well as business development and client relationship management. He has considerable data centre design experience including recent projects for hyperscale and colocation data centre clients in the Nordics and the Mediterranean region. He recently led the creation of a steel reclamation, testing and reuse strategy for a top tier international tech company which will drive sustainable change in DC design at scale
Ian is a Technical Specialist in structural engineering at Laing O'Rourke. An experienced Chartered Engineer, Ian works with project teams across our portfolio of major buildings to challenge and strengthen their designs. In this webinar Ian will draw from LOR’s range of experts from across our specialist disciplines to provide insights into how structural approaches impact cost, carbon and constructability of data centres.
Giorgia is a Technical Director at Sweco UK and a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 15 years of experience delivering complex building projects across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction, and handover. Recognised for driving project delivery, quality, and commercial performance on technically challenging schemes, Giorgia has a strong track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and providing technical leadership on high-profile data centre, high-rise residential, commercial, education, and refurbishment projects
