Technician Membership is the mark of an engineering technician who is ambitious, enthusiastic and passionate about structural engineering.
Benefits for you and your employer
TIStructE indicates you are a technician with the competence and drive to test your abilities against the highest standards. It also shows you're committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and ethical practice.
Drive your career forward
Access unique networking opportunities through IStructE Regional Groups, accessing opportunities you might not hear about elsewhere.
Get inspired
Gain ideas, support and confidence from friendships with peers operating at the top of their game - and access great resources for free.
First step
Establish that you have the right academic foundation. For Technician Membership you'll need either:
- An approved qualification set at level 3 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework for England, Northern Ireland or Wales; or at level 6 in Scotland; or the equivalent
- An Advanced/Modern Apprenticeship or equivalent
Second step
Satisfy the Initial Professional Development (IPD) requirements, completing an IPD Final Report Form for each of the Technician Core Objectives.
If you are applying via the Mutual Recognition Agreement route with the Institution of Civil Engineers, you will only need to supply the IPD Final Report Forms and Portfolio for Core Objectives 2.1, 2.2 and 2.4.
Final step
Create a portfolio of work to support your IPD statements and a two page experience report form/CV.
Submit your application form, along with your IPD report and portfolio. Our Application and Professional Review Panel will assess your application. You may need to sit an interview before being approved as a Technician Member.
