This seems to confirm the authors’ views that the failure of concrete in torsion is essentially due to its failure in tension and therefore any reinforcement which tends to strengthen these tensile planes such as stirrups or spirals, would be the only effective reinforcement in developing torsional rigidity of the concrete section.

EXPERIMENTAL data on the behaviour of reinforced concrete beams in, which, the shear reinforcement is welded to the tension and compression reinforcement is lacking. In this paper the results of experiments on tee and rectangular beams having, welded shear reinforcement are given with particular reference to (a) the contral deflection of beams; (b) the bond between the tension reinfurcement and the surrounding concrete.
