This paper reviews the economic and procedural effects on Structural practice of developments in present day circumstance. These have introduced a wide choice of structural forms accompanied by codified design rules and the mechanisation of construction techniques.

The Paper describes the design and development of a range of prefabricated steel-framed single storey portal buildings. Rafters are of tubular lattice construction, while universal beam sections are used for the columns. Plastic theory is applied to obtain a load factor design of the portal frames.
