A finite element modelis presented for non-linear analysis of reinforced concrete framed structures. The model considers non-linear stress/strain characteristics and cracking of concrete and yielding of concrete and steel. The reinforced concrete element uses an improved quadrilateral Q16 with reinforcement in any orientation. The subregioning technique is used to improve the accuracy for coarser discretisation
which results in computational economy.

The theory of the finite difference method of stability analysis for simple end-loaded variable section members is explained. The theory is developed to give an easy-to-use method for the buckling analysis of steel compression members with any variation of flexural stiffness, pattern of axialloading and support conditions. Data requirements for an analysis are listed and the application of the method to three different structural steelwork problems is described.
We continue to receive useful and interesting letters on trussed rafters. From Mr. G. E. Dickinson : The matters raised by Mr. H. Gorzelany (February '77) and Mr. R. A. Gill (May '77) on the subject of trussed rafters prompts me to add further comments.
