This paper introduces a computer system devised to assist the steel fabricator through the various stages of a steelwork contract. Working documents for estimating, material ordering, fabrication, and erection are produced. The system can handle beam and column buildings of irregular layout and size, and has been fully operational for some time. The volume of work being processed is currently at an average rate of 10 000 t/annum.
