It is difficult, when asked to write something about our work, to see how our modest residential projects could be of much interest to the structural engineer. One thinks of architects who work with tensile structures and retractable roofs for stadiums as having something of greater relevance to impart. Multistorey carparks (MSCPs) are to be found in most towns and cities; there are over 4000 in the UK alone. They have tended to have a low profile, until 27 March 1997 when there was a partial collapse of the roof at Piper’s Row MSCP in Wolverhampton. M.P. Webster
