Synopsis
The Serpentine Gallery is one of Britain’s best-loved galleries, attracting up to 1.2M visitors every year. Over the last 30 years, the gallery has established an international reputation for excellence, presenting exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is a temporary structure designed by an internationally renowned contemporary architect, offering audiences the opportunity to engage with the installation first-hand. This annual architectural commission was inaugurated in 2000 and has resulted in landmark built structures being produced each year. Previous architects invited to design the pavilion include Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry and the late Oscar Niemeyer. It is the only scheme of its kind in the world and presents projects that stretch the boundaries of contemporary architectural practice.
