With mounting pressure on structural engineers to deliver complex, efficient and cost-effective designs to tight deadlines, the need for a risk-based approach and proactive strategies is critical. At every stage in the Plan of Works, there are actions structural engineers can take to reduce errors, minimise risk, and improve safety.
Reasons to watch:
-
Learn about risk management in performance based design.
-
Understand root causes and common factors for errors, and how to avoid repeating the same mistakes as an industry.
-
Explore a collaborative risk approach within an innovative contractual landscape.
Content includes presentations below:
-
Error, risk and performance: navigating the construction risk landscape - from David Cormie
-
To Err is Human - from Keith Jones
-
Avoiding errors with procurement - Collaborative risk approach with an IPI alliance project - from Alex Carter and Louise Lado-Brynes
Intended for:
-
Structural engineers working to ensure the saftey and integrity of the sturctures
-
Structural health and safety professionals
-
Project managers
-
Anyone who wants to learn more about risk mitigation strategies
Speakers
Alex Carter
Partner, Cundall
Alex has over 25 year’s experience working in structural engineering, with over 10 years spent designing buildings in various countries around the world. Since joining Cundall in 2016, he has delivered numerous net zero or low carbon schemes and is an advocate of decarbonising structural design solutions through material selection, efficient design and the repurposing of existing buildings. He also lead the engineering design on the Circular Twin project that was awarded the AJ100 Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award in 2022.
David Cormie
Director, Arup
David is one of the leading structural engineers in the field of structural safety and the design of buildings against disproportionate collapse. He has a particular interest in risk in structural design, and in designing out risk from the design of building structures.
Keith Jones
Design and Technical Quality Director, Ramboll
Keith is the Design and Technical Quality Director for Ramboll’s UK Structures division. With over 30 years of design experience on UK and international building projects, he leads their Design Quality Panel with the aim of continual improvement in all aspects of design and technical delivery of structural engineering projects. As a Project Director at Ramboll and previously Arup, he has led multi-disciplinary engineering teams ensuring the successful delivery of projects from £5m to over £500m construction cost.
Louise Lado-Byrnes
Director and owner, IPInitiatives
Louise is a Director and owner of IPInitiatives who developed the IPI Model. She has a background in main contracting in her earlier career, from a degree in construction management and design, and latterly Collaborative Consultancy. Louise is a trained facilitator, trainer and is a practitioner of using numerous psychometric tools. She has a key interest in people, behaviours and practical implementation of processes
