This technical lecture explored best practices around the design and construction of high-rise modular structures of up to 50 storeys.

This lecture aimed to outline the opportunities and challenges of using modular construction techniques for buildings up to 50 storeys high. It would help you gain an understanding of key considerations and interfaces when proposing and engaging with a modular solution for high-rise residential buildings, including:

  • lateral stability

  • foundations

  • load paths

  • construction phasing

The use of modular construction is rapidly expanding throughout the world. While widely used for residential buildings of four to eight storeys, this construction method has been developed to deliver medium to high-rise buildings over the past decade.

The rising popularity of this modern construction method is attributed to aligning with key client drivers, streamlined construction programmes, greater QA of final construction and Health & Safety benefits.

Reasons to watch

  • Gain an appreciation of the design principles for tall modular constructions for residential projects

  • Hear how challenges were overcome in the design and construction of 2 modular buildings up to 50 storeys high in the London area

  • Understand the opportunities and benefits of medium to high-rise modular design
