Results of 2026 Council and Trustee Elections
The Institution of Structural Engineers has announced the results of its 2026 elections for Vice President, Council and Board members, with successful candidates set to take office for the 2027-2029 term. The elections play a vital role in shaping the Institution's future leadership and governance, ensuring members are represented by experienced professionals from across the global structural engineering community.
Vice President elected
Members elected Tak Ming Chan as Vice President (Trustee) for Central and Eastern Asia for the 2027-2029 term.
New Council members elected
Three members have been elected to serve as
Ordinary Members of Council for 2027-2029:
- Jon Carr
- Stavros Lazarou
- Mahendrakumar Madhavan
New Board members elected
Two members have been elected as
Ordinary Trustees (Board members) for the 2027-2029 term:
- Iman Abi Saab
- Toby Maclean
Voting closed at noon on 27 July 2026.
Congratulations to elected members
The Institution congratulates all successful candidates and thanks every member who stood for election and contributed to the democratic process. The newly elected Vice President, Council members will play an important role in helping to guide the Institution's strategy, governance and ongoing work to advance structural engineering knowledge and practice around the world.
All voting members* are invited to stand for election as Trustee Board members and ordinary members of the Council, while Chartered Members of the Institution are invited to stand for Vice-President.

Vice Presidents, Trustee Board members and ordinary members of Council are elected for a three-year term.
All nominees must have submitted an up-to-date report outlining their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities and be supported by 10 members of the Institution.
