This online lunchtime talk is of the personal insights from two practicing engineers that moved to Academia and the lessons learnt from cross discipline careers.

This online lunchtime talk is of the personal insights from practicing engineers that moved to academia and the lessons learnt from cross discipline careers.

Two structural engineers will share their experiences of moving from industry into academia, offering an honest perspective on a less traditional career path within the profession. The session will explore their transition, the differences between practice and academia, and the challenges and opportunities encountered along the way.

Drawing on their experiences in both environments, the speakers will discuss how academic work and industry practice can complement one another, creating opportunities for innovation, knowledge sharing and professional growth. They will also reflect on the value of professional engagement through the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and the role it has played in their development.

Whether you are interested in research, teaching, or simply gaining insight into alternative career pathways, this talk will provide practical lessons and perspectives for structural engineers at all stages of their careers.
