Years before the fateful battle of Trafalgar was fought and won, there flourished in the London of that day, one William Fiander, a Master Shipbuilder of some note. It was possibly, one of the repetitions of history that in the great struggle of our own time, one of the engineers called upon to give expert advice with regard to the use of reinforced concrete in the construction of ships as a special war measure should be none other than a direct descendant of the aforesaid William Fiander, namely, E. Fiander Etchells, the eldest son of Edward Ernest Fiander Etchells, of Romiley, near Marple.
