The writer feels much honoured by being asked to read a paper before this Institution as he recognises the fact that if we are to take our place at all in the front rank of concrete users (and we are very much behind at present), it will be largely through the operations of the Institution and the education it has given, and is giving, to our Engineers. He has, for many years, been an enthusiastic user of concrete and has never lost an opportunity of studying the question in all its bearings, making journeys abroad nearly every year to see some examples of foreign work.
