It is a matter of gratification to hear of the kindly and tolerant spirit with which my paper on shear reinforcement was received at its reading on February,22last. It is infinitely better to thank a man for telling you a thing with which you do not agree, and then to turn around and make a straightforward statement as to why you do not agree with him, than it is to suppress the publication of his remarks because you cannot agree with him, and fear the effect of those remarks on others who might be influenced.
