Synopsis
This article explores the recent refurbishment and extension of the Berkeley, which includes transforming a highly constrained site into London's first all-suite hotel – the Emory. The Emory is of note because it is one of the last designs to be attributed to Lord Richard Rogers.
The Emory was constructed on a small footprint, with a deep basement that comes within 6m of London’s westbound Piccadilly Underground line. Many of the Emory's facilities, together with mechanical, electrical and public health services, are shared with the Berkeley.
