A very interesting paper on Troubles Bridge Foundations, by Mr. H. E. Brooke - Bradley, appeared in The Structural Engineer, December, 1933. It quite rightly stressed the importance of scientific soil investigations prior to the study and choice of a design for a bridge. The same paper also mentioned cases of serious trouble having arisen through unforeseen settlements of a bridge abutment. DIPLOM-INGENIEUR G. TSCHEBOTAREFF.
