The following interesting facts are quoted from a paper on the "Effect of Temperature on Building Materials and Structures," read on December 2nd, 1937, by Mr. S. J . Crispin, M.I.Struct.E., L.R.I.B.A., to the South-Western Counties Branch of the Institution.
TOWARDS the end of the year 1930 the Science Committee of the Institution directed their Masonry Sectional Committee to investigate the safe bearing pressure on brickwork carrying a heavy load applied through a steel plate bedded directly on the brickwork.
