THE information which follows formed part of a paper on Reinforced Concrete and Steel
Bridges read to the Glasgow Branch of the Institution on January 7th, 1941. It is intended to provide a rapid means of comparing the suitability and costs of many types of reinforced concrete bridges with varying spans, and clearance heights, for particular site conditions. The writer has often found the need for such a guide, in his own practice. Whilst priced schedules of very many bridges actually carried out have proved extremely useful, they are hardly sufficient to provide the required information, in view of the wide variations in construction costs which have taken place during the past ten years.
