The Structural Engineer

The London County Council (General Powers)Act of 1909 laid down the conditions under which steel-framed bu51din8gs, could be erected in London. There were steel-framed buildings constructed in London before the passing of the Act, and one may assume that the Act resulted from a desire by the County Council to ensure that this new type of construction should whenever adopted, take full account of the safety of the public.
