This paper has been written not as a detailed technical description of the design and planning of thc plant in question, but to give a general description of the apparatus installed in the building for the purpose of heating and ventilation. The reasons for adopting the various systems are given together with some details of design, and a few of the more interesting facts which have come to light through the experience of three years of operation. 0NE of the many difficulties with which the designer of struts has to contend, lies in the fact that most of the accepted formulae are designed to enable the safe load for a given strut to be ascertained, but not to give directly the size of strut which will stand a given load. This means that the selection of strut sections is a process of trial and error, and a very tedious process at that, if,the maximum economy is required. G. Murray Boyd
