Professor Hardy Cross gave a simple arithmetical solution for the evaluation of redundant moments in a frame in his method of successive approximation, which is indispensable for complex frames, but cannot be used unless the loads and dimensions are defined numerically, nor is it suitable for the arch type building frames of Figs. 3,4,7 and 8.
