AT the passing of a great one in an olden time there was a marriage, and the golden tongue of the Orator wedded the crystal pen of the Poet. Their child was a sublime epitaph and it read one line: “He was my friend, faithful and just to me . . . "
I feel that there is no apology needed for the subject matter of my paper, as, in view of the tendency to consider new methods and alternative processes, a wider study is being made of what I might term the preliminary factors of industry. Whilst preparing the draft of this paper I came across, in the columns of a professional journal, an earnest plea that the designer should "learn the trade practically so as to get into the mind of the client" and, further, that "he should impress upon the people for whom the building is being designed that planning 1s the essential."
