Numerical Buckling Analysis of Arches and Rings

Network arches are bowstring arch bridges with inclined hangers which have multiple intersections. These bridges are very light and economical, which is illustrated by two such bridges built in Norway. A diagram (Fig 8) gives the steel quantities for various spans of network arches with two sets of hangers. Arches and hangers for these bridges can be erected with a light temporary lower chord which carries the formwork for casting the concrete deck. Per Tveit

An extended moment and force distribution method is presented for the analysis of plane frames by electronic computers. The method is developed to give the solution for orthogonal frameworks of arbitrary shape with respect to the effect of axial deformations, settlements and temperature changes. The results of the analysis show the moments and shear and axial forces in the members, as well as the displacements and rotation of the joints. Otokar Jelinek
