The article that appeared in the May issue of the Journal (p. 153) has served its purpose by drawing the attention of members generally to some of the problems associated with the change to metric.
This was the opening papcr at the International Conference on Structural Computing held in Newcastle-on-Tyne in July 1966. It is a review of the general pattern of development of computer techniques and their effect on structural engineering during the last twenty years.
