The Structural Engineer, Volume 63, Issue 9, 1985
The paper describes the structural design of the new building from inception through to the analyses carried out during the construction period. Particular emphasis is placed on the extensive wind tunnel testing and dynamic analysis and the studies developed from them. The use made of prototype testing of principal structural elements is explained, together with the detailed studies of movements both in the ground due to excavation and in the superstructure during and after construction. David Lee, FEng, Chairman of G. Maunsell & Partners, consulting engineers, will succeed Alastair Paterson, FEng, as President of the Institution 1985-86 at an Ordinary Meeting at Institution headquarters on Thursday 3 October 1985. The handover ceremony begins at 6 pm when Mr Lee will give his Presidential Address, the full text of which will be published in The Structural Engineer in November 1985.
