An experimental programme of work has been carried out involving load tests on lengths of British Standard castellated universal beams manufactured with different weld qualities. A supporting series of tensile and shear tests on different qualities of welded joint has also been carried out to enable the results to be extended to a range of different sizes of beams and thicknesses.
