The author recently chaired a task group reporting to the Institution’s Professional Affairs Committee upon the ‘Fragmentation of design responsibilities’. The conclusions to which the task group came were clear but not particularly helpful and the best way of bringing them to a wider audience may be to offer personal observations. R.C.A. Eastwood
The use of corrugated steel webs in bridges is briefly reviewed, with reference to relevant research. No examples have been found of their fabrication in the UK. Information is given on aspects of fabrication, such as pressing of corrugations, providing camber, and connections, that should be useful to estimators and designers. Professor R.P. Johnson and J.
