Garrity (M) (Bradford University) As a representative of the Yorkshire Branch of the Institution and a Leeds United supporter, I am compelled to ask the following question: my son, who is also a Leeds United supporter, tells me that, prior to the construction of the new structures that you have just described, the East Stand at Elland Road had the longest cantilever span roof in the UK. I wondered, given the rivalry between the two football clubs, if the need to provide a new stand for Manchester United with a record span was a feature of the design brief.

The use of corrugated steel webs in bridges is briefly reviewed, with reference to relevant research. No examples have been found of their fabrication in the UK. The author recently chaired a task group reporting to the Institution’s Professional Affairs Committee upon the ‘Fragmentation of design responsibilities’. Wind Codes The growing complexity of Codes and the wind Code, BS 6399, in particular, continues to raise comment. In reacting to Mr R.T. Bennett's comments (Verulam, 18 Februay 1997) Mr M. G.
