Mr S. W. Garrity (M) (Bradford University)
As a representative of the Yorkshire Branch of the Institution and a Leeds United supporter, I am compelled to ask the following question: my son, who is also a Leeds United supporter, tells me that, prior to the construction of the new structures that you have just described, the East Stand at Elland Road had the longest cantilever span roof in the UK. I wondered, given the rivalry between the two football clubs, if the need to provide a new stand for Manchester United with a record span was a feature of the design brief.

The conclusions to which the task group came were clear but not particularly helpful and the best way of bringing them to a wider audience may be to offer personal observations. R.C.A. Eastwood
