Wind Codes The growing complexity of Codes and the wind Code, BS 6399, in particular, continues to raise comment. In reacting to Mr R.T. Bennett's comments (Verulam, 18 Februay 1997) Mr M. G. Searle from Oxford writes: I agree with Mr Bennett’s remarks on using the new BS 6399 and have simplified its use (out of frustration) for standard portal framed structures by the use of unity for many of the various S and C values. The author recently chaired a task group reporting to the Institution’s Professional Affairs Committee upon the ‘Fragmentation of design responsibilities’. The conclusions to which the task group came were clear but not particularly helpful and the best way of bringing them to a wider audience may be to offer personal observations. R.C.A. Eastwood
